Ol’ Blue Eyes Was A Foodie

In the midst of this story about a $30 loaf of bread, I came across this factoid, noted by Tom Herbert, expensive bread baker: “Frank Sinatra had his favourite loaf sent to him wherever he was in the world daily.” Who knew?

Sinatra did record the hymn “Let Us Break Bread Together” but I always had the impression he lived on cigarettes and steak. Oh, wait! I see on SinatraStyle.com that there is a Sinatra restaurant, approved by the family! They serve “Ossobucco My Way!” Isn’t this a fun post? It’s like we are wandering through google together. Here is his eggplant parm recipe.

And now, dear reader, I am beginning to doubt this whole loaf-sending thing. There are numerous references in the google to Sinatra’s love of Patsy’s restaurant here in NY and especially their Clams Posillipa. This book review mentions that he had “clams and Italian bread flown in for dinner from his favorite restaurant in New York.” That sounds a little more plausible, no? So I am calling shenanigans on the baker’s claim, and submitting this entire post for an investigative journalism award.
